Interview with Trudy Bourgeois

Tuesday April 11, 2006
In her new book, The Hybrid Leader, Trudy Bourgeois writes that “80% of today’s workers feel so undervalued, so unappreciated and disengaged they hate coming to work in the morning”.

Just let that number sink in for a moment…Yikes.

The number is scary because as everyone knows, an unhappy worker does not perform their job to the best of their ability. But, you can’t blame the worker. They are in misery. See, employees need motivation (and perhaps a good paycheck) to make them happy. Basically, they need a reason to work. That’s where good leadership comes in.

The author of The Hybrid Leader, Trudy Bourgeois, is no stranger to leadership. She is one of the country’s preeminent experts on leadership and workforce issues. An acclaimed author, business coach, experiential learning facilitator and nationally recognized speaker, Trudy is a pioneer in the field of transformational leadership. In The Hybrid Leader, she presents a plan for a new style of leadership that combines the strengths of female and male leadership styles.

Recently, I had an opportunity to interview Trudy. She very graciously took time to share her thoughts on leadership, interviews, the modern workforce, and her new book, The Hybrid Leader.
