Rolling basis from October to August of next year. We have an application package submission deadline in the beginning of each month, and will conduct the interview in the middle, and issue out the final decision at the end of the month.
Application package includes:
Online application form (personal information, education background, working experience, essay) and supporting documents (recommendation letter, university transcript, copy of degree certificate)
Interview includes:
Case analysis (30 mins), case discussion (30 mins), and panel interview (30 mins)
GMAT is not required to get to the interview, but it is preferred. If you havent taken your GMAT yet, you can still first prepare for the interview and if you pass, you will get a conditional offer. But you have to submit your GMAT within three months after the conditional offer is given.
Is it better to apply early in the process?
If you are fully prepared, then the earlier the better. This is especially important if youre trying to apply for scholarships.
Who conducts your admissions interviews?
One professor, the MBA director, manager of Career Management Center will form the interview panel. Manager of Academic Department and current MBA students will be the observer in case discussion.
Do you have any interview tips for Cheung Kong applicants?
Be yourself. We want to identify whether one applicant is suitable to our program based on his application package and interview performance. And these two parts have to be unanimous. So be honest in the interview, show the real you to us.
How important is an applicants GMAT score?
GMAT is reviewed together with your academic records, indicating your learning ability and logic. Around 15% weight.
In regards to undergraduate study, does Cheung Kong consider other factors besides performance? For example, does it matter where an applicant completed their undergraduate schooling?
A bachelor degree is necessary, but location of their university is not so important. Since the MBA program is taught completely in English, an applicants fluency in English is necessary.
What is your position on people who apply to the Cheung Kong Graduate School of Business directly out of college?
Since students have to do a lot of discussion on real-world business cases, fresh graduates may not fully understand the cases being their lack of real world working experience. So we prefer our candidates to have 3 years or above of full-time working experience.
Does race, ethnicity, sex, and cultural background play much of a role in your admission decisions?
No, one of the emphases of Cheung Kong is in its pursuit for diversity. We welcome students from all backgrounds to apply.
What qualifies as a good letter of recommendation?
The person writing the recommendation letter needs to be in a direct supervisory role or observe the working performance of the applicant. They need to comment on the applicants strengths, shortages, and what kind of role the candidate takes in the group/company.
What is the most common mistake that Cheung Kong applicants make?
About the application package: too much useless information without emphasis on ones uniqueness.
During interview: too eager to show the determination and the ideas he/she prepared before, but lack of real interaction or genuineness.
