Business School Admissions - Darden Admissions (continued)

Q & A with Wendy Huber Associate Director of Admissions

By , About.com Guide

What is the most common mistake that applicants make?

I think most applicants underestimate the time it will take to complete the application process. Researching, visiting, interviewing, writing; it all takes time. Start early!

Don’t rush the process. A strong application merits admission no matter when it is received.

How can an applicant stand out among their peers?

It may seem that applicants to MBA programs are “cookie cutter” consultants, investment bankers, government employees. I say it’s how they decorated the cookie that makes them so distinct. They could be a female consultant who grew up abroad and spent most of her life overseas, an investment banker that is also an All-American wrestler or a government employee who now sits on the board of directors of a not-for-profit focused on mentoring inner city youth. Everyone is unique – know yourself and you will find a way to distinguish yourself in the applicant pool.

Why does your school stand out among other business schools?

Three elements: high touch, high tone and high octane. High touch is for the amazing level of interaction at the school. Whether it’s student to student, student to faculty or student to alumni there is a level of engagement that you don’t see at most business schools. High tone references the dual nature of the program. Not only does one develop deep functional skills, but Darden also develops you as a leader. As for high octane, it’s no secret that the Darden MBA program is rigorous. Darden is an environment which stretches and challenges students both inside and outside of the classroom.
