Business School Admissions - Chicago GSB Admissions

Q & A w/ Rosemaria Martinelli Associate Dean of Student Recruitment & Admissions

By Karen Schweitzer, About.com

How can an applicant stand out among their peers?

Be yourself! This comes from knowing yourself well -- your strengths and weaknesses; and embracing your passions. Help us to know you holistically -- what makes you tick? Understanding how a particular school fits and matches your professional and academic needs is important; speak to it directly in your essays. We want to know that you have done your research

Why does your school stand out among other business schools?

Chicago GSB is unique in the MBA marketplace. We believe that every student has a different background with different aspirations, which translates into no two people having the same programmatic needs. While we teach the fundamentals, we provide enormous flexibility for each student to craft a program based on their interests, abilities, and professional aspirations. The GSB believes in the power of debate and pushes our students to pursue excellence in everything they do. We often use the phrase "We teach students how to think, not what to think". Community is another important part of the GSB experience. From our support services to the myriad student groups, students, faculty and administrators work to bring out the best in everyone. We are a very engaged community.
