Ohio has some excellent public universities, and admissions standards for the top schools have gone up measurably in recent years. If you're wondering if you have the ACT scores you'll need to get into one of these four-year public universities, below you'll find a side-by-side comparison of scores for the middle 50% of enrolled students. If your ACT scores are below the lower numbers for your desired university, don't lose hope, It's important to keep in mind that 25% of admitted students had scores below the range published above. For some of the universities, holistic measures can help make up for less-than-ideal standardized test scores. A winning application essay, meaningful extracurricular activities and good letters of recommendation can all play an important role in the admissions process at some schools. Also, many of the schools have Division I athletic programs, so special talent in athletics can significantly strengthen an application.

Finally, as with nearly all colleges and universities, a strong academic record will be the most important part of your application. Success in challenging courses such as Honors, AP, IB, and dual enrollment can help convince a college that you are prepared for college-level work.
