What Is an MBA in Management?

An MBA in Management is a type of master's degree with a strong focus on business management. These programs are designed to help students gain the skills and knowledge needed to work in executive, supervisory, and management positions in various types of businesses.

Types of MBA in Management Degrees

There are many different types of MBA in Management degrees. Some of the most common include:

  • One-Year MBA Degree: Also known as an accelerated MBA degree, a one-year MBA degree takes 11-12 months to complete. These degrees are more common in Europe but can also be found at business schools in the U.S.
  • Two-Year MBA Degree: The two-year MBA degree, also known as a full-time MBA degree or traditional MBA degree, takes two years of full-time study to complete and can be found at most business schools.
  • Part-Time MBA Degree: A part-time MBA, also known as an evening or weekend MBA, is designed for working professionals who can only attend school part-time. The length of these programs vary depending on the school, but can usually be completed in two to five years.

General MBA vs. MBA in Management

The only real difference between a general MBA and an MBA in Management is the curriculum. Both types of programs typically incorporate case studies, teamwork, lectures, etc. However, a traditional MBA program will offer a more broad-based education, covering everything from accounting and finance to human resource management. An MBA in Management, on the other hand, has more of a management focus. Courses will still address many of the same topics (finance, accounting, human resources, management, etc.) but will do so from a manager's perspective.

Choosing an MBA in Management Program

There are many different business schools that offer an MBA in Management program. When choosing which program to attend, it is a good idea to evaluate a variety of factors. The school should be a good match for you. Academics should be strong, career prospects should be good, and extracurriculars should match your expectations. The tuition should also be within your range. Accreditation is important as well and will ensure that you get a quality education. Read more about choosing a business school.
