Former U.S. Ambassador George H. Walker III on Webster's Global MBA Program

Interview with U.S. Ambassador George H. Walker III

By , About.com Guide

You are a strong proponent of the importance of global education. Why are you so passionate about this topic and Webster?

I am passionate about Webster University for what it stands for and the impact it is having in the life of many young men and women, making a huge difference by providing the opportunity for them to fulfill their aspirations. I am also passionate about global education because the nations of the world are becoming more interdependent every day. Events in China, India, France, South Africa or Turkey often have an impact on us in our country.

Do you think business schools do enough to foster cross-cultural awareness?

In general, business schools I know do not do enough to foster cross-cultural awareness. But business schools have an obligation to serve as the ultimate real world laboratory to foster cross-cultural awareness and transformational results. Webster is particularly equipped to enable this impact because our mission espouses it and, better yet, we have made a commitment to cultural awareness.

You recently made a generous contribution to Webster University's School of Business and Technology. Why did you decide to give your assets to Webster and not another worthwhile institution?

My contribution to the Webster Business School was based on the commitment I saw to international education, the leadership provided by the Dean and the impact that I believe my contribution would have.

What else makes Webster stand out among other business schools?

The Webster Business School, overall, stands out because of their faculty, which is made up of so many practitioners, sometimes called adjunct faculty, who are people out on the firing line. This is not common.

How does Webster’s Global MBA compare to other Global MBA programs?

Our Global MBA program offers what many other MBAs do not offer, that is, an immersion experience in the international theater for an extended period of time. This is enabled because of Webster’s global infrastructure.

Any final thoughts for individuals who are thinking about applying to Webster or another business school?

Find a school where you will be comfortable and at the end of the day will be better because you studied there. Webster, in my opinion, is such a school.
