By Karen Schweitzer, About.com

When it comes to admissions, some business schools are more selective than others. The following five business schools are considered to be the hardest to get into based on the admissions process and the number of applicants turned away each year.

1. Harvard

The Harvard Business School is world renowned and by far, the toughest to get into. The Harvard MBA program focuses on a general management education and uses a case method approach in their curriculum.

2. Wharton

The University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business is most well known for innovative teaching methods, a wide range of academic programs and resources, the world’s largest and most cited faculty, and their rigorous admissions process.

3. Stanford

The Stanford Graduate School of Business has an international reputation as a leader in management education. Applicants for Stanford programs are evaluated on three criteria: intellectual vitality, personal qualities and contributions, and demonstrated leadership potential. There are no minimum GPA requirements or minimum GMAT scores.

4. Columbia

Columbia Business School is also consistently recognized as one of the top business schools in the nation. The admissions process at Columbia is extremely competitive, and the admissions committee only seeks candidates who have superior academic credentials.

5. Tuck

Famous for their small class size and close-knit community, Tuck is one of the most selective and prestigious business schools within the United States. At this time, Tuck only accepts approximately 14% of the total number of students who apply each year.
