Undergraduate Degrees and MBA Programs

By Karen Schweitzer, About.com

Question: Undergraduate Degrees and MBA Programs

Do you have to have an undergraduate business degree to apply to an MBA program?

Answer: Though most people believe that the first step to getting an MBA degree is getting an undergraduate business degree, this isn't necessarily true. In fact, many of the top business schools do not even offer undergraduate business degrees.

It is often times preferable to get a broader education during your undergraduate study. Think sciences or liberal arts.

Of course, this doesn't mean that you shouldn't study topics related to business. Basic economic and quantitative courses are always a good idea. But, you don't need an undergraduate business degree to get into an MBA program. A good MBA program will teach you everything you need to know about business, management, and leadership.
