Interns have the opportunity to earn real-world experience. Unfortunately, gaining that experience isn't always a piece of cake.
Interns are expected to work hard for little to no pay. They are also expected to take on the jobs and projects that nobody wants.
Above all, interns need to know how to make the most of their internship experience. In some cases, this may mean learning how to handle certain situations with class.
Too Much Work
Interns are expected to take care of any and all work assigned to them. However, assignments can pile up beyond an interns control. This is why it is essential to stay on top of everything and be open and honest when you know you will not be able to complete a project on time.
Not Enough Work
If you don't have enough work, you are not doing your job. There is always work for interns. If your assignments aren't keeping you busy, you need to take more initiative and request more work.
Condescending Attitude
Unless you are among the luckiest of interns, you are bound to run into people who say something condescending. Before getting irritated, remember that you are the low person on the totem pole. If someone is rude to you, ignore it. Being the bigger person and handling every situation with class will serve you better than a snappy comeback.
Office Parties
Interns are often encouraged to attend work functions and office parties. It is very important that you are on your best behavior when attending any work-related functions. In other words, don't get too drunk, say dumb things, or engaged in any behavior that would be considered inappropriate.
