Career References

By Karen Schweitzer, About.com

As soon as you begin looking for a job (if not before) you should begin collecting references. If possible, secure letters of recommendation from professors, mentors, former employers, and co-workers.

Along with written references, you will want to keep a list of potential contacts that can give verbal affirmation of your skills, experience, and work ethic. If there is a chance that these contacts will be called upon, give them forewarning. This will give them a chance to be ready, ensuring that your potential employer does not catch them off guard.
