Students who are in need of financial aid to pay for college can apply for both federal and state aid. Because each type of aid uses different formulas to determine eligibility, those who don't qualify for federal aid may be eligible for state aid.

Different states have different application procedures. Students interested in applying for state aid should speak with their guidance counselor or contact their state's agency to learn more about the types of forms that need to be filled out.
