Business Majors: Entrepreneurship

Entrepreneurship Information for Business Majors

By Karen Schweitzer, About.com

Entrepreneurship is the heart of job growth. According to the Small Business Association, small businesses started by entrepreneurs provide 75 percent of the new jobs added to the economy each year. There will always be a need and a position for business majors who focus on entrepreneurship.

Entrepreneurship Coursework
Business majors who choose to study entrepreneurship will focus on general business subjects like accounting, marketing, and finance, but will also pay particular attention to capital management, product development, and global business. By the time a business major completes a quality entrepreneurship program, they will know how to start a successful business from the ground up.

Working as an Entrepreneur
Working as an entrepreneur is much different than working for someone else. Entrepreneurs have complete control over how a business functions and how it will proceed into the future. Business majors with entrepreneurship degrees can also secure employment in sales and management.

Educational Requirements
Unlike most careers in business, there are no minimum educational requirements for entrepreneurs. But that doesn't mean earning a degree isn’t a good idea. Business majors who choose to focus on entrepreneurship will be well served with a bachelor degree or even an MBA degree. These degree programs will give aspiring entrepreneurs the skills and knowledge they need to succeed in their career.
